Diabetes is a challenge that can affect children when they are young, or as they get older. When a child is overweight they are more at risk for type 2 diabetes. The good news is that if you can help your children challenge their eating habits and the way they look at food, you can help them lose weight quickly.

What most parents don’t know is that they have created their obese child by making them eat everything on their plate and feeding fatty and processed foods. Instead of going to a nice sit down restaurant that serves health foods, most children end up at McDonald’s. Between McDonald’s and the food that is served in most school cafeteria’s kids can’t help but gain weight.

While your child is young, it is a good time to get them started with good eating habits, so they will not grow into heavy adults. This can be just the right thing to do in order to make sure that they do not find themselves dealing with type 2, diabetes.

One of the ways to help them is to serve good and whole food to the entire family. If you learn to control the portions you give everyone will benefit. Children should not have to diet in order to lose weight if you help them learn to control their portions in addition to giving them whole foods. One way to do this is through a Meal Measure because it is easy to use and fun for them.

A child will naturally control their portions when they are small and then their bodies get confused because they are forced to eat past their set point which is what determines when they are full. If you use a guideline like the Food Pyramid you can be sure that they are getting enough to eat.

A child should not feel guilty about eating when they are hungry so provide lots of fruits and vegetables for snacking. This will ensure that they begin to choose better eating habits so they won’t acquire diabetes as adults. Also, start when they are young to have some form of exercise, and you will not see the weight gain again.

Most kids love to ride bikes or swim but many do not like to play sports. Help them find a type of exercise that they like and that is fun for them to do.

by Sandra Wilson

Choosing to have your tubes untied leads to all sorts of questions. Perhaps the biggest has to do with the tubal reversal cost you will have to pay. As you will learn below, this can vary depending upon several factors.

If you search around, you will see figures quoted for the tubal reversal cost from about $3500 on up to around $30,000. Many quoted prices on line are in the $6,000 to $7,000 range.

The first factor that the price depends upon is whether or not this is an outpatient or in hospital surgery. Use of a surgical center, rather than a hospital, lowers the cost. You will see this represented from the tubal reversal center websites on line.

I suppose getting the surgery done at a surgical center rather than a hospital carries a lower overhead from staff and the facility. This way the savings can be passed onto you. Face it. A hospital has to make up its losses somewhere.

Additionally, use of a hospital implies a longer surgery with a longer post operative recovery time and more nights spent therein. This may be a necessary addition in cost due to your own medical needs such as diabetes or some other medical condition.

Another thing to be cognizant of is what all is included within the quoted price. Some doctors will charge additional fees for lab work, the initial office consultation and review of records, and other things. Some may require a four night hotel stay (at the hotel they recommend) which may not be included in the “package” cost. This in some cases explains the lower offered tubal reversal cost.

One more thing that appears to affect the cost in a strange sort of way is the experience of the surgeon and how often he performs the surgery. Those that do it less often seem to charge a higher price. Perhaps this is because of doing it so seldom, they must do it in a hospital as they don’t have their own surgical center. You know how doing it in a hospital can raise the price.

One more factor in the price of a tubal reversal can actually be your own body mass index. Whereas some surgeons will not do the procedure on women with a BMI above 35 for health and safety reasons, you will find some who will simply charge you more money to have the surgery. In addition, if you are above a certain BMI or weight, your surgeon may require the surgery take place in a hospital.

You can now see how different things can affect the tubal reversal cost you may end up paying. This is not the only thing that should concern you however, although you may be happy to know that the premiere tubal reversal doctor charges a very competitive price. be sure to seek out the answers to other questions you should be answering beyond just tubal reversal cost to find the best surgeon for you.

Take a quick look around and you’ll observe the costly obesity crisis that is slowly overtaking our nation. How bad has it become you may say? Consider the idea that we are now seeing individuals parking in handicap parking spots to avoid having to park just a few extra feet away from a building.

For some people, this is tied to genetics – there are several genetic triggers that, when we lived hand to mouth as a species, were survival traits. Being able to store fat in prosperous times was an insurance of survival in the winter. Also in that calculus lies the fact that we have, as a population, become more sedentary as technology has progressed.

This becomes even clearer when we witness the growing problem of children with obesity. Nutrition counselors agree that for every 3 to 5 pounds a child is over their normal weight level before they reach puberty, that child will become on average 15 to 30 pounds before they reach the age of thirty. To add to this, Type II diabetes is now become one of the fastest growing diseases among teens.

At the ages of 12 – 16 is when most young girls and boys are self conscious about their bodies. Even “normal looking” kids get teased. If we allow our children to continue down a slippery slope toward obesity, we are setting them up for a very difficult childhood. Parents must be told that healthy eating habits and not Slimfast diet shakes or Medifast meals are the key to weight loss and a nutritious lifestyle.

The good news is that this trend can be stopped. In fact, you may be surprised at the simple solution.

Think back to when you were a kid. If there were video game consoles, they were things like the Atari 2600. Your friends came over in person, and you ran around outside and played in the park, running around with the excess energy that all children have.

After a long day of playing, you were met with a cool glass of milk, water or juice. A sugary cake or pie were a nice end to a full day of activity and not what’s now become the new breakfast of champions.

This same attitude can be instilled in your kids, but you have to be strict about it. Keep your kids on the smallest amount of soda you can. If you do give your kids soda, give them diet soda, or a mixture of diet and regular; the key here is that you don’t want to give them a sugar addiction early on. Humans are evolved to prefer sweet as a flavor, and the amount of sugar in a can of non diet soda has increased 30% since 1970.

As for snacks, limit their intake of high sugar and high fattening foods and increase their consumption of fruits and vegetables. This may not be as hard as you think. Consider this, if you kids are not of driving age and do not have a job, the only reason they are eating the way they are is because you as the parent purchase the unhealthy food in your kitchen. Trust me, if you don’t buy it, they will immediately decrease their over consumption. Oh yeah, they’ll complain however it is up to you to be the parent.

Staying physically active is an absolute necessity. Children are usually mirror images of their parents. If you as a parent live a sedentary life, the chances of your child duplicating your example are very high. If you have little league teams in your town, encourage your children to participate. Not all kids are athletic but all kids need to be active. In addition, set aside at least one day in the week where the entire family is physically active together. It could be a walk in the park or playing tag in the backyard.

Have you ever heard the acronym “WYSIWYG”? It stands for “What You See Is What You Get”. Well, that is the reality your children are faced with on a daily basis. They will never raise their standards of healthy living beyond that of your own. If you are serious about having an impact on their lives, ask yourself this question, what can I do today that will demonstrate to my family that I am committed to living a long and fruitful life.

Acid Reflux is most commonly known as “acidity” in laymen words. It is a state where the contents of your stomach flow backwards towards your throat causing hearts burns, hiccups, burning sensation etc.

After a large afternoon meal people usually take a nap or lie down and watch TV.

Suddenly they start feeling uneasy so much to an extent that they cannot lie down again. There is a lot of discomfort and pain in the chest. This is a state when the contents of the stomach travel upwards in the esophagus. It is chiefly a digestive problem. It leaves a
bitter taste in the mouth. At times it can also be felt in the mid line of the back. It is chiefly related to the eating habits.

Causes of Acid Reflux In Babies:

We have a small “flap” covering the top of the stomach which prevents the stomach contents from creeping back in the esophagus. At times this “flap” does not function properly due to which the contents of the stomach travel back in the esophagus causing a burning sensation.

The factors responsible for Acid Reflux are: eating heavy meals, smoking, alcohol, pregnancy and overweight.

Pregnancy: This is a time when you need to be extra careful about what you eat and when you eat. Eating habits matter a lot during these 9 months of a woman’s life. But in this phase woman gets nausea with some food items. They are often seen gorging themselves in bad causing heart burning. To prevent such things women should eat a healthy diet full of iron, calcium and protein during theextremelyimportant months for good health of a mother as well as a baby

Eating Habits: Due to the fast life and busy work schedules people are often seen eating outside food or skipping their meals, or filling up there stomachs with heavy meals, thus suffering from various health problems. To maintain a healthy lifestyle more care should be taken with the eating habits which will help us avoid any health problems.

Smoking: Smoking affects our digestive system thus affecting our eating habits. A smoker is often seen smoking even in food hours to avoid the food intake. More precisely, he becomes so addictive to smoking that he looses his appetite and is hardly interested in eating food, thus causing heartburns and also cancers to a larger extent.

Overweight: Obesity or overweight can cause numerous health problems such as high sugar levels (Diabetes), high blood pressure, cancer, high cholesterol and so on. Being overweight can be hereditary or could be because of being inactive, eating habits, smoking, medicines, medical problems etc.

Hereditary: Some people are genetically over weight. Genes are an important factor of a person’s health.

In-activeness: Some people are inactive. They do not like to participate in the health regime programs like exercise or sports. Such people are very likely to gain more weight.

Eating Habits: The diet or eating habits of a person are major factor to weight gain.Ingesting high calorie or high fat diet contributes to weight gain.

Medicines: Overweight can be a side effect of some medication.

Medical Problem: Medical history of a person can also be the cause of being overweight. eg: Thyroid.

Above are some of the reasons of Acid Reflux. Click here for more information on foods to avoid with acid reflux

One of the scariest things an expectant mother can be diagnosed with is gestational diabetes. While it is scary, it is certainly something that is manageable. The good news is that just a very high percentage of women diagnosed with gestational diabetes goes on to have an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth.

Gestational diabetes most often appears during the middle of the second trimester, or around 22 to 24 weeks. All pregnant women are encouraged to take the 1 hour glucose tolerance test, or GTT, around 22 weeks to check for gestational diabetes. The test includes drinking a heavily sugared drink and then blood sugar levels being tested through a blood draw one hour later. If the levels are higher than desired, gestational diabetes is suspected and a second, longer test is prescribed. This second test is 3 hours long and is known as the 3 hour GTT. If the levels are higher than desired after this test, the woman is diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

All cases are treated differently, and there is no magic diabetes treatments that cures gestational diabetes. Most women begin treatment by meeting with a dietitian and going on a strict lower carbohydrate diet. Usually, this is enough to keep blood sugar levels in a normal range. However, some women do require treatment through oral medications or insulin injections. In addition, women will need to be seen by their doctors more often for monitoring. Most likely, patients will need to be seen about once per week and will also need to undergo non-stress tests beginning at about 32 weeks of pregnancy.

Women with gestational diabetes are required to test their blood sugar levels at a minimum of 4 times per day – after breakfast, after lunch, after dinner and before bed. Blood sugar levels are tested with a glucose monitor, which requires a finger prick to extract a small amount of blood to put on a test strip. Within 15 seconds, the blood sugar level is displayed. Levels for a woman with gestational diabetes should be below 150 within 2 hours after eating and below 95 after fasting, or first thing in the morning.

Complications from gestational diabetes are an increased chance of pre-eclampsia, babies with higher birth weights and broader shoulders which may require a c-section, and stillbirth. The majority of women diagnosed do not have any complications that arise. As long as blood sugar levels are kept as close to normal as possible, the rest of the pregnancy should be free of complications from gestational diabetes.

healthy feet are very important to our general wellbeing. People rarely consider the consequences of neglecting their feet yet neglect can lead to long term and sometimes chronic pain and discomfort. With only two feet to stand on we don’t have a lot of spare capacity so looking after them is pretty important and starts with a daily routine.

A regular daily routine is very important if you are to keep your feet healthy and pain free. Even if you have neglected them for some time it is never too late to start doing the right thing for them and there is a lot that you can do for yourself.

Diabetes has a massive impact on your foot care and if you have diabetes, you should consult a registered podiatrist/chiropodist for a professional check up.

Your daily routine should include washing your feet in soapy, warm water. Avoid soaking, no matter how pleasurable it might feel at the time, as this can remove the natural oils. Afterwards, make sure that you dry your feet thoroughly paying particular attention between the toes.

Apply moisturising cream all over the foot, except for between the toes if your skin is dry before applying a light dusting of foot powder.

Once your feet are clean and dry you can inspect them carefully to see what else might be necessary. Hard skin can be removed gently with a pumice stone, but not if it is over a boney area or joint. If you have hard skin over a joint or boney area, or if there is pain associated with the hard skin, consult a registered podiatrist/chiropodist.

Your toe nails need to be trimmed regularly, using proper nail clippers. Cut the nail straight across, not too short, and don’t cut down at the corners as this can lead to in-growing nails.

Keep your feet warm, and exercise regularly to make sure you maintain good circulation.

Comfortable shoes are important to the health of your feet so make sure you wear the right shoe for whatever you are doing. This can vary considerably according to your work and lifestyle.

Having been Type I diabetic for over 14 years, I am always looking to improve my diabetes treatment. I have gone through teenage hormonal changes, two pregnancies and general illness all without much incidence, and I would like to keep it that way. Diabetes can be a very scary thing but with the proper diabetes treatment, it is most certainly a manageable disease.

There are both short and long acting insulins and most likely a person with Type I diabetes will need to take a mixture of both. If you are not fond of the idea of needles, there is now an insulin inhalerthat has just been introduced to the market. It is not widely used yet, but when discussing your diabetes treatment with your doctor be sure to ask about it.

In addition, the most cutting edge diabetes treatment is the use of an insulin pump. An insulin pump site is inserted once every three days and acts like an external pancreas, giving the patient continuous short acting insulin to keep the constant blood sugar levels in normal ranges. When eating, the patient self administers insulin through the pump rather than giving shots.

Realistically, I have found this to be the best diabetes treatment for myself because I have been able to adjust my insulin rates down to the half hour rather than taking shots and waiting for the insulin to react. While on the pump, I have been able to take my A1C levels (a three month overview of sugar levels) from 7.1 to as low as 4.2 during pregnancy. Normal ranges are 4.0 to 7.0, so my doctors were quite pleased with this as was I.
